There's an old saying that says; “A picture is worth a million words.” Photography is an important
Similarly, Susan Sontag’s On Photography provides a modern version of Plato’s teachings, prompting the audience the question the candidness of photographs. Her essay discusses how photography limits one’s understanding of the world, and she strengthens her argument through the use of rhetorical devices. Sontag demonstrates a thoughtful tone, which enhances her credibility. At the beginning of the passage, she acknowledges the importance of photos in preserving culture and their irreplaceable role in society.
Much like others, I have also related to this mindset in the past. As much as I enjoy recording videos of things and taking pictures, I still would rather take less pictures and witness plenty of memories with my own eyes. I was once on a seven kilometre hike through a forest, on my way to a waterfall in the summer. Although it was fairly level terrain and little hills, it was my first ever hike, and it was very challenging to me. When I finally arrived at the waterfall, I just sat there for a moment and relaxed, taking in nature, as opposed to pulling out my phone to take pictures right away.
This allowed precious moments to be captured and kept for forever. Even today, we love the thought of taking pictures no matter where we are. Pictures are a way for people to have a sentimental keepsake from a time that was dear to them. Instant cameras have found various uses throughout their history. Cameras today are used my a numerable amount of people including, detectives, photographers, police, family members, and even tourists!
I enjoy traveling around with my Canon 1000D and capturing life precious moments. Even though my camera is old, it has been my best friend since the inception of the world. It has always been there for me, and it always will. My buddy and I are ardent fans of photography; for that reason, “Journal of a Wanderlust” has born. It is an active blog and I usually update it twice a month, despite my busy academic schedule.
SOURCE: On Sunday, January 3, 2016 at approximately 1900 hours, I received a telephone call from Sgt. John Sanzone, who told me there was a drive by shooting that had just occurred. Sgt. Sanzone assigned me as the CSI lead on this case.
I have been doing some thinking about our conversation a few days ago and have concluded that I will take you up on the offer! I just sold my old bike and now have some money left over that I can use to pay for those seminars. I am going to see how soon I can get this done, I am going to look at the dates and send my form in. I will keep you posted on the status of things as they get processed.
Capturing a picture isn’t as easy as it seems. We have to make sure we have the right angles and filters. We want the most beautiful scenery and lighting. It’s all the little things we must adjust to create the perfect image. Life is exactly the same.
When you compose a picture, you don’t see it in the viewers eye, you see it in your own, so you can make them see whatever you want to. I try to capture shots that are pleasing to see, for people see things differently and pictures speak louder than words so it also makes them feel different emotions,” Young said. I am interested in taking DMP in the future to learn more about the videography. I think this will add to my tools in photo.
I’ve always wondered why people with a little or a lot of power tend to treat you unjustly. I’ve experienced many times when people with power treated me poorly. There were times in school with teachers, in school with principles and even out in public places. When I experienced these moments they made me feel like there were something wrong with me or I was different. Also, it made me feel like I was different from others… but not in a good way.
From being a tool that only used during special occasions and used by professional photographer to a device that almost every family will have at least one of it. The purpose of recording moments during special events has also expand to capture our daily moments. Other than being a tool that captures memory, people nowaday also use it to defense anxiety, bring comfort, and share happiness. People can get rid of anxiety of being separated apart and bring comfort at foreign environment by simply taking pictures. Most importantly it shares the happiness with everyone that photographer wants to share.
My body cried like a newborn babe, afraid in an unfamiliar place. Immediately, my fresh eyes were greeted by waves of black hair, friendly smiles, and the Japanese language. I had arrived in Japan. I did not know the language or the customs, but I dove right into the dark pool. I was determined not to let the unknown drown me.
Nearly every time our family eats in Cracker Barrel, we get a laugh about some of the old photographs hanging on the wall. It is hard to believe that those people had to be perfectly still for a very long time to just take one picture. In the time it has taken me to write this paragraph, my dad took a bunch of pictures of our cat. On just our phones alone, the picture quality, speed, and color were probably unimaginable 100 years ago.
The first half of this semester was swift and I can’t believe how fast it passed by. College is a whole new world for me that I had never imagined with a lot of new experiences that I hope will shift me into a better and smarter person. There are more things I can do in college that I would have never dared to do in high school and I am happy for these new freedoms. I am able to eat in class, leave class without asking and they don’t care if I pay attention or not. My high school teachers would always tell me to wait for the bell, sometimes would not let me leave and if I did not pay attention they would yell.
Seeing that some of the children in the classroom were interested in photography, I decided to bring in my instant film camera. This was a perfect way for me to share something to the classroom that I am passionate about. During circle time, I taught the children in the classroom how the Polaroid camera works and explained to them the process of taking photographs with the camera. Using instant film is unique because unlike film photography, it does not need to be processed with chemicals or in a darkroom; the film develops right before your eyes. Using this kind of film allowed the children to watch each photograph develop.
