EXPERT TO NOVICE JOURNAL Summary of Reading Assignment The assigned readings for this portion of this journal largely focus on the preparation required for a clinical nurse to begin a journey from expert nurse to a novice nurse educator. While there are notable differences in the role requirements between academic nurse educators and clinical nurse educators, the qualities and attributes remain relatively constant. Different paths lead nurses to become educators, but commonly educators are introduced to an educational role through preceptor experiences that awaken interest in teaching the art and science of nursing to other nurses.
Personal Statement for Nursing School “When a person decides to become a Nurse. They make the most important decision of their lives. They choose to dedicate themselves to the care of others” Growing up in Nigeria; I had my first introduction to the field of medicine at the age of 6. At the time, my grand father was a holistic doctor at my local community. Whenever my grandfather went to work, he would take me with him and I remembered being very fascinated by how people would come in to get treatments for different kinds of diseases.
Making a difference I started my health care career as a nursing assistant at the young age of 16 years-old perusing the dream of one day becoming a nurse. At that time, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into and what it meant to be in the health care. I have been able to touch and impact so many different people’s lives throughout the last 6 years from patients and residents to their family members. Sometimes not even realizing that I was changing someone’s life. Although I’ve helped hundreds of people there is one person that will I will always remember.
Nursing is a most trusted and gratifying profession. As a nurse educator, I will express my passion for teaching by incorporating features such as clinical assessments, practical application of theory, evaluation, and role modeling into advanced nursing practice, from previous experiences and current experience and clinical practicum to find success and gratification in students chosen profession as well empowering leaners to develop their own strengths, beliefs, and personal attributes to become a good professional. My life goal is to help as much as i can and be the best version of myself. Growing up I never felt cared about and had any attention given to me. From that point on I knew I never wanted anyone to feel like me at any point of their life. My passion for wanting to become a nurse became stronger. With this diversity comes different learning styles of students. My Sense of Purpose at Work Dela Gana, Karol Raneses June 24, 2015 Summary— my nursing career allows me to obtain essential qualities to what I believe is needed to be a successful nurse. I established important goals to remain on this path for success. It made me the person I am today. It is hard to just pick one memorable moment because it is the big and small daily happenings that make nursing such a rewarding profession. It is priceless profession.
Developing collaborative student relationships fosters a sense of mutual trust and respect. Gaining every student’s trust enhances the learning relationship and is reflective of my commitment to caring and my dedication to student success to achieve their goals. When it comes to classroom instruction, I feel that how I teach is equally as important as what I teach. I integrate current evidence based practice in all course content. I feel it is important to include new innovations and applications not only within nursing but within related and supporting disciplines.
When I was twelve years old, I relied on my Magic 8 Ball to help me try out for the junior high cheerleading squad. The Magic 8 Ball is a toy that you ask a question, give it a little shake, and it provides you with an answer. In my case, my Magic 8 Ball’s response on whether or not I would make the squad was “It is decidedly so”. Unfortunately, I did not make the squad that year. In retrospect, the outcome was obvious.

As a nursing student, I have a grasp on what nursing is through textbooks and lectures. The more I learn about this profession, the more I learn about what my philosophy is. Although I haven’t gained clinical experience as a nurse, I have gained some clinical experience as a nurse assistant that helps me administer patient care while acquiring knowledge working under the supervision of nurses. This experience helps me to become knowledgeable on what their roles and responsibilities are, and it has inspired me that I hope when I graduate, to equal their skill, diligence and passion.
I was born to a world full of physicians. Almost everyone in my family are physicians, specialized in different areas. I was exposed to hospital settings from at a very young age. I had the opportunity to interact with people and understand their experiences by observing them carefully while waiting my parents to finish work. It was fascinating yet touching having the opportunity to interact with many patients and see their to get well soon.
