My leadership style is currently transformational leadership exhibiting the traits of idealized influence, inspirational motivation, and individual consideration. I lead my team through idealized influence by ensuring I meet the needs of my Airmen before my own, upholding myself to a high level of moral and ethical conduct, and being loyal to my work center. Additionally, I use inspirational motivation by building the confidence of my subordinates, peers, and supervisor through articulating a positive image of future events, which inspires them to provide their best effort. I will consider the points of view that oppose the way that I currently think by seeking out opinions that differ from my own. By seeking out the opinions that oppose my own, it will build upon the concept of trust in a person by engaging with my subordinates’ and enhancing the rapport that we have. I will use active listening to concentrate on the conversations occurring from my subordinates to me. I will value the information provided to me, and utilize the moments as a training opportunity. During the training, I will use emotional flexibility to be cognizant of any emotional concerns that arise without being dismissive, and controlling my verbal and non-verbal communication. Training opportunities will allow me to utilize my expert power by employing my knowledge and experience to educate my subordinates, molding them into subject matter experts. Furthermore, training opportunities will impact my subordinates by challenging their thought process to include second and third order effects, and change their mindset from following the status quo, to creating innovating concepts to improve the Air Force. I will use lateral communication to schedule one on one DCO training sessions to encourage out of the box thinking and welcome opposing points of view. While working with my peers, I will utilize emotional flexibility to control my verbal and non-verbal communications by promoting rational thinking throughout the mentoring session. I will employ my expert power to cultivate my peers by using my experience and knowledge to show them how to defend their systems. Engaging my peers in these training sessions will build upon the concept of trust in a person by showing them that I have their best interests in mind.
