Personal Narrative: Where Am I Going?

Starting my journey in a small town in Alberta wasn’t anything special. Having an average upbringing isn’t something that I was fated with. At the time my mother was undiagnosed with bipolar, and my father was away for work most of the time. Growing up I was required to take on a great deal of responsibility, caring for my sisters, seeing as my mother was not capable. Nearing my sixteenth birthday I was given no choice but to move out and figure out my life on my own. Leaving for Vancouver is what I decided to do where I anticipated I would find my safe haven with friends. Recently I lost my best friend to drugs, but the few friends I do have are optimistic, open hearted, understanding beings who have always been there for me. Some are friends from when I was a teenager and others being my family. My family being my grandparents and cousins, they are my support system and have always been there through my ups and down. I may not have many connections, but the ones I do have could not be better
4. What Do I Value? 3. Where Am I Going?

Loyalty, Respect, generosity, and kindness are my most important core values. There is nothing more important to me than treating people with respect. No matter the position they are in, in their life every human being deserves the same amount of respect. Loyalty and kindness mean the most to me. I didn’t have a great deal of supports growing up. Until my grandparents took me in, and now I recognize how important it is to be kind and respectful of those around me. Having family and friends with the same values has impacted my life extremely. There is nothing I value more than my family.

On the path that I am on now I want to receive an education that can lead to me obtaining a degree as a psychologist. Helping people with addiction as well as adults and adolescents involved in human trafficking are areas I am very passionate about. There are a few programs overseas in third world countries I am interested getting involved with
