The Women’s Volleyball defeated Pine Manor in their final game of yesterday’s tournament, improving their record on the season to 6-5. It was a huge day for the Colonels, who were below .500 when the games began this morning. After scuffling to start the season, it seems as if this team may have finally hit their stride after stringing some wins together. Even though Curry would win each set in this matchup, the first one was full of struggles. Some early miscommunication quickly left the Colonels trailing 12-6. Teammates were having issues calling each other off, which caused multiple battered balls to find the floor unexpectedly. There was never a moment when energy seemed to escape Nicole, and it definitely seemed to rub off on her teammates. When speaking after the game, she explained “We all know that if one us gets flat, then the rest of us will get flat, and that’s how you lose games. We want to win.” With an attitude like that, it’s no surprise that her presence on the floor carries such a heavy impact.
Freshman Erica Costa would end up scoring the final point of the game, while showing some real resilience after seeming a bit frustrated with her play early on. Not too many athletes have the ability to recover from mistakes made earlier in the game, and focus solely on making up for it. It showed some real character, which this entire team seems to be full of.
Looking ahead, the Women’s volleyball team faces off against the University of New England on Tuesday at 7 p.m. They’ll be on the road this time around though, where they’ve earned four of their wins this season.It’ll be interesting to see if the Colonels can continue their winning ways in this matchup, and finally move past their rough start to the
