Serra is the right school for me because it values diversity, one of my most important beliefs. The student body has a broad mix of boys from different cities, ethnic backgrounds, economic situations, and family structures. I enjoy befriending students from other cultures because I get to learn about their traditions and customs. Serra exposes its students to a variety of extracurricular activities. There are fourteen choices for student athletes, including baseball, football, soccer, and water polo. Of the wide array of clubs, the BBQ club and the Robotics team interest me the most. These all create balance and will help me develop as a person outside of academics. Another reason Serra is the right school for me is that everyone belongs somewhere. Because there are are so many opportunities, there is a place for every person, from student athletes to singers and actors to star students. When I shadowed, I noticed that all the boys had friends to hang out with or were busy. To me, Serra is like a jigsaw puzzle, and the pieces are the students and the staff. One quality I look for in a teacher is positivity - being optimistic and supportive to their students. I learn best when a teacher presents the material in an exciting way. I also like teachers who point out mistakes in my work using constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement.
