Medicine has always intrigued me because of a persevering interest in building my knowledge of the medical sciences and using my passion for it and the welfare of others to have a positive impact on my community. I am motivated to pursue medicine because of my experiences and the experiences of those around me with the healthcare system and their healthcare providers and a belief that if I continue to be passionate and dedicated to expanding as an individual, lifelong learner and future physician I can be an effective contributor to the communities I serve and am a part of. Further, academic medicine appeals to me because of its integration of medical education, research and patient care which I believe will be beneficial to my practice as a physician.

Though this is a short term experience I believe it will help to lay a foundation on which I can grow as I seek long term experiences in research. It is pivotal in academic medicine to consistently be questioning and enhancing the practice of medicine and research allows for the discovery and implementation of new scientific knowledge for the benefit of patients. Though I have had some research experience there are still many ways in which I can learn and develop as a research scientist. I believe I am a good candidate for this program because I am deeply driven to not only share the knowledge I have with others but to learn from those around me. Further, I am committed to consistently improving myself so that I can be a great physician for my patients and my community. I have been privileged to be a part of a research project before and enjoyed being part of developing hypotheses, working with the other members of the lab in gathering and analyzing data, learning new laboratory techniques and discussing my research with my peers.
