Medicine and science are undeniably inseparable entities. Scientific advances and discoveries will invariably influence a career in the medical profession. This was a fact I learned early on during my undergraduate career. However, my passion for science spans further than using it as a means to an end. The process of coming up with theories and conducting experiments enthralls me. I don’t just want to use science to treat my patients, but gain inspiration from my patients to advance scientific discoveries. For this reason, the ideal way to apply my interests, and to best serve my community, is as a physician-scientist.

Stemming from a multicultural heritage, I believe my exposure to radically different cultures during my development has prompted me to view my education as an experience less fixed on absolutes, and more concerned with the blending of ideas. My undergraduate education served as an interdisplianry foundation that allowed me to extract knowledge from multiple fields of science and engineering. Thoroughly enjoying this aspect of my education, I find myself drawn towards investigating unexplained phenomena. Though I have always planned to make research a major component of my medical career, the pursuit of an MD/PhD would readily provide extensive training that will benefit the scientific ideas I have in mind for the future. Investigations with results that could prove practical towards my patients at the bedside would be of greatest interest to me. The interplay between research and clinical treatment will be one of the grounds that that my career will be structured around. Training through an MD/PhD program will help provide a long-term research based experience I would need to move forward in my career
