I write you to express my interest in becoming part of your team at Kirk Architects. I am a recent architecture graduate with a substantial experience in the field and I am looking for experience in a practice where I can develop my interest in architecture.
My personal motivation in architecture is focused on understanding the way that culture and technology merge into architecture. I am obsessed over how the way a brick is put on top of another one depends on who is putting it, where and when and for whom, and how the result of that gesture will have different meanings in different contexts and for different people. The symbology of architecture fascinates me: how from the flashing of the roof to the window sill and the wall texture, everything combines to form a powerful yet subtle message of culture, ideology and people. It has given me the ability to work effectively and independently and it has develop my self-motivation and passion towards architecture.
My work experience as a junior heritage architect in the BCC provided me with a good understanding of the legal framework of architecture and how policy and development influence design. It improved my ability to work as part of large team and developed my understanding of the large-scale impacts of construction and the ethical and social implications of design decisions. These lessons complemented and broadened the knowledge I gained during my time as a student architect at Project Leaders, where I learnt about project management and contract administration while developing my software
