I am interested in Chemical Engineering at WashU partially due to my great love of chemistry and mathematics. Math has come naturally to me ever since I was a little kid, and the logic of numbers appeals to me, and I take great joy in the processes and intricacies of chemistry, and its explanation of the world around us. Chemical Engineering, I believe, is a perfect meld of these to disciplines that fits very well with my skills and interests. In addition, I have always been fascinated by why products are made out of certain materials, and how those materials could be made better, which directly applies to the field. WashU’s Department of Chemical Engineering is widely regarded as one of the best in the world, and I could only hope to take part in the cutting edge research and innovation going on inside the department.
However, despite this fit for chemical engineering, what

My future will be one of solving the world’s problems. Whether I am working in a big company, national lab, my own small startup, or even my garage, I hope to be able to accomplish my love of making an invention, idea, or product that solves a need. I have always loved solving problems, whether that problem is a dry rotted grip on a baseball bat, a classmate’s inability to understand a concept, or a malfunctioning part on a robot, the more complex the better. I only hope to move on to bigger and more complex problems in the future. I think a degree in Chemical Engineering will help me accomplish these goals because it will give me the tools to solve many different types of advanced problems. Chemical Engineering is a field that can be used to solve a broad range of problems in many different industries, since everything that is built requires chemicals. I believe an education at WashU will excellently prepare me for a successful career in this field, in both the short and long
