As an ambitious freshman at the University of Arizona, I am full of several ideas of what my future holds academically and professionally. First and foremost, I would enjoy finding a career that revolves around studying the brain. The research being conducted could range from neuropharmacology to the societal stigmas surrounding mental illness. Ultimately, I would like to contribute to how the brain works and positively affect the culture and medical breakthroughs dealing with the brain. This dream has stuck with me for many years and is a key component for my decision at the UA. Aside from being a (possible THE) summer highlight, this trip opens numerous doorways to prepare me for the rest of my time at the University of Arizona along with preparation for life afterward. Research often involves collaboration with several institutions and countries to collect the most accurate and beneficial information relating to the study. By studying abroad, I will be experiencing other cultures first-hand in order to see if their brains "work the same." Clearly their cultures differ, but how? What differences most speak to me? This trip allows for these revelations to be made while touring the cities and interacting with the locals. Also, a key part of the trip I am looking forward to is our time in Madrid. Though this Spanish country has a different dialect than Latin American countries, being able to hear and practice my Spanish with anyone is extremely useful for my Spanish studies and preparation for utilizing what I learn after college in the real world. This trip may also tip the balance for whether or not I should major or minor in Spanish depending on the experience I have while in Spain. Lastly, this trip, as I have been told, will build an insanely tight-knit group of friends who are traveling and living together for a month. This will help me learn more about the people on campus and become better
