Ever since I started my journey to higher education it has been a dream of mine to study abroad. Studying Humanities has exacerbated this desire by opening my eyes to the importance of culture appreciation. It has also shown me, through textbooks, the greatness that Europe has to offer. Its rich history and rich culture have made it number one on my list of travel destinations. Even working two jobs, I can hardly afford to pay for an education, housing, and amenities. Consequently, my limited funds have made travel to Europe low on my priority list. However, I have realized that a San Diego State University exchange program is the only opportunity I will have to immerse myself in a culture outside of my own. The program I applied for is a semester-long program that will take place in spring, 2016 at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which is known for its wide array of disciplines including my two areas of study, Humanities and Spanish. …show more content…
Going to Spain will grant me the opportunity to expand my cultural horizons by opening the door to a continent I have never explored. Studying in Spain will not only provide me the unparalleled experience of learning Spanish from where modern Spanish originated but it will also give me a firsthand understanding of Spain’s culture. Being in Spain will also grant me access to several prestigious museums, historically important locations, and culturally significant buildings. I will finally get to see a Picasso, walk through Salvador Dalí’s Spanish Home, and explore Spain’s lavish cathedrals. All this will allow me to physically experience the art and culture I have only read about in my humanities
