My life and my story isn’t necessarily the perfect life story, picture, or experience. However, after reflecting on my experiences along with the results of three assessments, my life picture is becoming clear and in alignment with my goals and aspirations. Like many individuals, I grew up wanting the careers that would make me tons of money. I wanted a lot of money because I wanted the “good life” or the “good picture” that was portrayed by many successful people that I admired. I grew up in a family full of educators, so teaching and being in the education field was the last place that I wanted to be. My family have a history of being helpers and advocates. One year I wanted to be a computer technician, the next year I wanted to be a doctor, the next year I wanted to be the president, and upon entering college I started school as a biological science major with the aspiration of being a pediatrician. I always had mentees that I would tutor and mentor without even realizing that this was a passion of mine. Within two years of school, I changed my major to teaching of English, and later to English. Fast forward to today, I am college counselor at a high school that is working towards a master’s degree in school counseling, with later goals of being a principal. Shockingly, doing the very thing that I did not want to do, working in Education. My type was identified as ENFJ (Extravert, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judging). To be deemed as an extravert, intuitive, feeling, and judging was comforting. These four areas are indicators that I would want to see in a leader. As a future school counselor, these four type indicators would be helpful in being a successful counselor within a school system. To my surprise, these indicators are also traits that I would want to see in a principal, which is another future goal of mine.
