My journey to pursue a career in pharmacy has been a diverse one. There have been times where I was not sure what path I was taking or if I could handle the course load. Through this journey I have gained experiences and knowledge about this field I am eager to enter. I am certain that my choice to attend pharmacy school and become a Doctor of Pharmacy will lead to a challenging, yet exciting future.
One aspect about my future has always been certain: I want to help others. That being said, if I would have been asked what my dream job was when in high school, I would have said nursing. Coming from a family of nurses, that career choice appeared obvious. It was a healthcare field where you help patients, seemingly the perfect fit.

He pointed me in a direction I had not thought of before, mentioning a career in pharmacy. After doing some research, I made an appointment to job shadow in my hometown pharmacy. Only five minutes into my experience, I had a huge smile on my face. This career felt so natural and right for me. I started working in this same pharmacy a year later during the winter of my freshman year, and I haven’t had a day where I didn’t stop to think “I feel so accomplished helping others like this”. The amount of compassion displayed by my co-workers in this main street store is indescribable. My mentors have not only given me vital insight on how to think like a pharmacist, but they have also allowed me to see potential pros and cons of working in a community pharmacy. My experience working there has proved to me that this is the career that not only fits my personality, but provides me the joy of helping others and encourages me that I am on the right
