I have come to love Pharmacy as I have had relevant work experience and have been impressed by the diverse opportunities that Pharmacy offers. Initially my interest in chemistry and biology began as a young boy reading about the functions of life and how things work, this acquisition of knowledge was driven by a love to serve others . A passion for pharmacy began as I was given the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at a local NHS hospital. In the 15 hours of experience I had there, I was able to shadow a pharmacist on ward rounds for a majority of the time, and also spend some time in the dispensary unit. A large portion of my life experience was gained in the 2 years I spent living in Ghana, West Africa offering voluntary service for a multi-national non-profit organisation, Experience that could not be replicated within my home country. Upon meeting people from all different social, cultural, educational and ethical backgrounds, I became highly skilled at communicating effectively and gained confidence in interacting with all people, which will be most important in both community and hospital pharmacy settings. For six months of the two years, I was assigned to lead 180 other volunteers, allowing me to involve myself in teaching people on a one to one, small group and large group basis. This has equipped me with adaptability and confidence in voicing my opinion. From time to time, challenging behaviour would arise and as part of my role, I would be responsible to resolve concerns, and rebuild team unity amongst fellow volunteers.
