I would like to study abroad with AFS-USA because I have always dreamed of traveling and learning, from first-hand knowledge, about different cultures around the world. I have not been able to travel a lot due to financial reasons, but I have always had high hopes of being allowed to travel to places I have wanted to see since I was a student in elementary school. Another reason why I would like to study abroad with AFS-USA is that I have a passion for learning new languages. The ones I find most interesting are the Romance languages which is why I would like to go to France. I have taken three levels of French and will be continuing my fourth level in the spring semester of the 2014-2015 school year. I enjoy making connections between the various Romance languages that were originally derived from Latin. …show more content…

When it comes to what I would like gather from this unique opportunity, it would essentially be the knowledge and experience needed to become fluent in a foreign language, specifically French. Becoming fluent in a language other than my native tongue will give me a variety of opportunities in the future since the need for the translation of foreign languages has been, and will always be, in high demand. I would also enjoy meeting new friends from other countries from this experience, which I feel is an unchallenging goal for me since I can connect well with people who are culturally different than me.
