Martha Graham once said, "Dance is the hidden language of the soul." Like Graham, I am in awe of being able to communicate through this silent art form. What continually inspires me to develop my knowledge of Dance is the impact that it has on the world, for everything that I am unable to put into words, so many new ways of expression are suddenly possible for me when I dance. It is like understanding a foreign language; it is a language in itself.
Dance has always been a significant part of my life, so it was an obvious choice for me when deciding what I would like to study as I continue on to higher education. Matthew Bourne's book, 'Conversations with Alistair Macaulay', made fascinating reading for me. Bourne talks about constantly questioning and developing movement. I admire the way that he can manipulate the common perception of ballet and his ability to break the stereotype by continuously pushing boundaries. I am always searching for ways to develop my knowledge and understanding of dance, and take a particular interest in the educational side. This interest led me to work as a volunteer with children and young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. I am fascinated by how dance can be used as therapy to help gain confidence and build self-esteem.

In year 12 I was a captain for our House Dance competition. I worked with a given stimulus and interpreted it through a ten minute choreographed piece to show the journey of evolution and how the world has changed as a result. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and the natural high that choreographing a dance never ceases to give me. I have recently been chosen as Dance Ambassador; this requires me to promote dance to all. I give advice to younger students on choreography, lead Dance clubs and am currently involved in choreographing our school
