My palms were sweating and my heart was beating out of my chest as I prepared to walk up the stairs of the makeshift stage at Bird Elementary with my second grade class to perform, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” I felt in my element on stage. Nothing compared to the rush I experienced when I could transform into a completely different person and perform for the audience to experience and enjoy. After the curtain call, the moment that stands out was when my second grade teacher told me how impressed she was with how comfortable I looked on stage and suggested I check out a local children's theatre. Ten years later and now I want to do what she did for me. It was that moment that made me not only want to become a teacher, but a teacher that goes above and beyond to help her students grow to their full potential in all aspects of their lives. …show more content…
As the assistant director, part of my job was to interact with the parents and help the kids if they didn't understand what was being asked of them by the director. The adult cast members always made a point to tell me how much joy they felt when watching me interact with the kids and how thankful they were for my organization and positive attitude that the children looked to for guidance and encouragement. I could see pieces of myself in the kids I worked with when helping them to feel confident in their ability to perform and do something that was out of their comfort
