Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behavior in a given context. Psychology was first practiced by Avicenna, the famous Muslim doctor that was born in 980 AD. Avicenna first studied and treated epilepsy, nightmares, and poor memory. The first hospitals treating psychiatric conditions were said to have been set up by Islamic doctors in medieval times around 980 AD. This initial practice paved the way for psychology in a myriad of fields. Some of those fields are clinical psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, evolutionary psychology, and neuropsychology. Moreover, a few reasons why I chose psychology as a major was to understand my patients thought process. By this I mean I want to know what led to their health diagnoses and current health conditions. I want to understand and better treat my patients both physically and mentally to avoid future complications to their health. I want to be able to better heal the entire body which includes psychological issues. Going into this class only reassured me even more on my career goals. After learning that psychology does not pay well I knew I was not studying psychology to make money, but to help those around me with the basic knowledge I have learned throughout the semester. This class helped me better the structure of my resume, cover letter, and personal statement. Without the help of Professor McCready, I would not have a great my resume, cover letter, or personal statement to submit to my future employers or medical schools. This class helped me clean up some rough edges that I needed to work on and help me understand where I went
