In the second grade when I made a light bulb light up with just a small piece of wire and a battery I knew I was going to be a scientist. A little further down the road in middle school I took my first biology class and the scientist I wanted to become was a biologist. It was not long afterwards that I learned the importance the role medicine plays in our society. My ultimate goal is to become one of the outstanding pharmacists that assist patients everyday with improving their health. I have come to learn that pharmacists do not just simply dispense the medicine they see written on a prescription, rather they work with prescribers to make sure the patient gets the most beneficial drug to help them. Communication is also key and as a pharmacists I am able to make myself available to patients with questions about the medicine they maybe currently taking or just any general health question, and they can do so without an appointment. Growing up playing sports, I have not only become a great team player but I enjoy working as a team, and being a pharmacist’s means being a team player. As a pharmacist I would look forward to collaborating with physicians and other prescribers to ensure the correct drug is dispensed and that the patient does not take any drugs that interact in a harmful matter with another drug they are already taking. Job security, especially in this nation, is so critical and a major advantage of becoming a pharmacists. More prescriptions are being filled every year as new drugs are being produced, therefore the demand for pharmacists is also rising.
