I selected pharmacy as a career because I believe that health is the greatest wealth. When exercise and nutrition are not enough to prevent illness, medicine is the solution. However, medicines can become dangerous if used improperly, so the medical knowledge that pharmacists possess is extremely valuable. Increasing my understanding of how medications work would be a reward in itself.
After earning my Pharm.D., my immediate goal is work at a pharmacy because that is where most pharmacists practice their profession. My long-term goal is to continue working in retail for at least ten years and constantly improve my performance.
To prepare for the rigor of pharmacy school, I have spent the past five years developing my professional, educational, and personal background. In 2009, I had the privilege to intern as a pharmacy technician at a local Walgreens pharmacy for a semester through my high school's internship program. After interning there for five months, I developed a better understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the pharmacist and pharmacy technician.

Despite not getting as many A's as I wanted in my pre-pharmacy courses, I feel that I have developed a solid academic background because of how rigorous the professors taught their classes. To prove that I understood what I was taught, I made it my goal to get a 90 or higher on the PCAT. From August 2013 to January 2014, I studied for the PCAT for about an hour a day in addition to studying for six classes. After taking the test in January 2014 and receiving a 92nd percentile, I am now confident that I have the academic background necessary to perform well in pharmacy
