Despite the expanding range of choices for undergraduate students, the study of Clinical Laboratory Science provides far more than the average, basic grasp on a set of skills like other majors. It is undoubtedly an influential part of the medical field. It amazes me how far and how fast the profession has grown and how it has played a role in diagnosing, treating and, preventing many diseases since the first clinical laboratory was opened at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1896. I would not be surprised if the profession continued to develop and the need for more clinical laboratory technicians increased in the future. I am a sophomore Clinical Laboratory Science major and transfer from Howard’s Biology department from St. Louis, Missouri. I decided to change my major because I hope to pursue a career in forensic science and work in the office of a medical examiner. I felt as though this program would better fit my career goals as I have already learned so much related to the medical field just by taking the basic classes. As a child I would always dream of becoming a scientist when grew up. I wanted to be the one to discover a new planet or create something spectacular that will help people. I can recall having an interest in almost every field including, astronomy, biology, chemistry and anatomy, because to me, science is the essence of what defines us as humans. Being naturally curious about everything that surrounds us. To develop, or be apart of, methods to answer the questions we have about the world and everything. I believe that Clinical Laboratory Science embodies this curiosity. To have the responsibility to solve the mystery the that is the human body is fascinating. Science allows me to discover and understand things I would have never known. It provides me with the answers that I did not even know I
