To be a trailblazer in my family means more to me than to some others. My family came from Cameroon, Africa as a family of seven. The first apartment we were able to live in was a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. One bedroom was for my parents and the second was shared between all five kids. Two boys on the top bunk and three girls on the bottom bunk. Even so, we were very happy to come to America because it is a land of opportunity and growth. We knew that coming to America would give us the opportunity to have great paying jobs that we love, instead of being forced to work in a certain area. I have strived to achieve my dream job of becoming a doctor. I knew that it was a lot of work and that some people will not be able to do it, but I know that I can achieve it. Being the first in my family to go to college means making my parents proud and finally giving them the joy of having their child make it past secondary education. Being the first in my family to go to college means showing my three younger siblings that they themselves can do so as well, and providing them with the knowledge that they will need to get into college and to get scholarships. Being the first in my family to go to college means all the work I did in high school, all the studying for tests, all the late nights spent reviewing or doing homework, all the stress of projects paid off. It means I can now start move on to the next chapter of my life. I can now begin the journey of becoming a doctor in the United States of America. It means I have reached the half-mark for my goals.
