To be honest I am still not sure what I want to do after I graduate. Growing up and adventuring through life you often hear people make statements such as “I am going to be an engineer when I grow up”, or “I would love to be a cook one day”. However, for me, I never had the desire to make one of those statements and if I am being completely open I have yet to figure out what my ideal statement would be. In the fall of 2017 I will be starting my Junior year at Hope College. Most people at this point have their life planned out, have their major chosen, and have an advisor that can help them. I’m different. This summer is being used as a self-exploration summer to hopefully decide my “calling” in life.

I came into college thinking that maybe Occupational Therapy would be a fun job. Hence why I am taking this class. If I ultimately want to be on the Pre-OT Tract I will be an Exercise Science and Psychology double major. Therefore, my four year plan assignment is for that option that is weighing on my shoulders. But right now, I do not know if that is what I want to do. I feel like a lost puppy in a world of grown dogs. Everyone around me knows exactly what they want to do and when they want to do it. It is stressful and scary feeling like you are the only one with no answers. Whenever talking to an adult they always ask me what my dream job would be if nothing held me back. What do I want to do after I graduate and why? I want to be happy, I want to help those who are not as fortunate, and I want to be able to see the affect my job has on the world. Whether that job is being a doctor, teacher, or janitor, I just want to help others and be able to put a smile on their face. That would be my “dream job”- someone who helps others and spreads love. I think it would be awesome, to be able to go back to Honduras after I graduate and help the people there even more. The people that I met on that trip always had a positive outlook despite their situations, they never took anything for granted, and they were genuine, caring, and selfless individuals. After I graduate I want to surround myself with more people that have those attributes.
