The one thing I've learned from being in a science-based middle school magnet program is that there is no such thing as being "good enough." There will always be room for improvement; it is for this reason that I have been enamored with the Poolesville HS Science, Math, and Computer Science (SMCS) program.
From what I know of this program, I am aware that the teachers are brilliant and help students realize that they are capable of so much more than they ever imagined. I believe that attending SMCS will give me a passion for learning that will change my life forever, and I am hopeful that the review committee will evaluate the following information and, at the very least, consider placing me in the wait pool.
I have constantly worked hard and sacrificed a great deal to pursue my passion for science, but haven't always had the resources or opportunity to do so. Hence, I've worked to cultivate my passion for science through competitions, summer programs, and other STEM-related education. For instance, my experience with the USAEOP Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program was instrumental in my success as a student. The GEMS program, taking place in a university/research laboratory, allowed me to work alongside university students from across the region—students who were aiming for promising

However, I plan on analyzing its data for my project by juxtaposing and combining similar research and datasets in order to gain a deeper understanding of this topic alongside similar research, and hopefully, in the future, I can test this research out myself. Whether I win the contest or not, what is most important is not winning an award or receiving recognition for my project—what matters most is learning something new about neuroscience and gaining knowledge about this subject matter that will help me pursue my interests further down the
