Drunk driving is a serious problem that causes thousands of deaths each year. Too many people in my community and around the world are comfortable with driving drunk. The world that we live in today is sickening because driving drunk is like second nature to some people, especially in my small community. Not only are they putting themselves in danger, but also other innocent drivers. Drunk driving is hurting the world in many ways. When the decision whether to drive under the influence comes to mind, a person may not realize the consequences of the action they are about to make; therefore, they usually make the wrong decision. Someone from my dad’s work, who has gotten charged with many DUI’s, said, “I am not letting nobody put that in my car, I need privacy! Who cares what I do on the weekends? It is my business and my life.” People like him do not realize that it is not just about risking his own life, but it is also about the other drivers on the road whose lives he is putting at risk (“Board”). Another thing he does not realize is what if his wife, mother, child, or loved one got killed due to a drunk driver, he would wish that person would have made a smarter choice before getting behind the wheel. In order to prevent that problem, vehicles have to have the ignition interlocks. Although he was against it before, having ignition interlocks could have prevented him from losing a loved one. People also assume that it is too expensive to have the interlocks and that the prices of all cars will go up. The price of the car will not go up, there would just be an extra fee for the interlock when you purchase the car. Those people, who are selfish and prideful, do not realize that the cost to install it is only between thirty and sixty dollars
