According to the U.S. State Department human trafficking has increased dramatically throughout the years. Today 600,000 to 800,000 people from all nationalities are trafficked across international borders every year, of which 80% are female and half are children. Meaning that it is a total of 20 to 30 million human slaves today (Human Trafficking Facts, para.4). Each individual are being forced to work in both a demeaning and traumatizing filed as a human trafficker. Human trafficking has become a huge global epidemic that needs to be admittedly addressed by not only the government but also the public. Not only does human trafficking ruin the lives of its victims and their families, it also violates human rights laws, and it is without a doubt inhumane. With continuing drug abuse and sexual violence, the spread of threatening disease becomes inevitable. Since human trafficking is a forceful ordeal there is no treatment for STD and drug abuse (About Trafficking p.2). Not allowing the victims to receive any type of treatment allows more control and power for the trafficker. As these individuals grow and mature they do not receive education, in fact, they are completely stripped of their identity. Without an identity, the challenges to escape and gain an education are slim. Throughout the years they are taught that they are not people, they are property. This slave idea brings a sense of low self-worth and destroys all self-esteem. Attacking vulnerable people allows this entire process of lowering self-worth, taking away identity and forcing sexual and abusive acts less of a challenge to the predators. This forced act is what keeps the victims from escaping. The feeling that they will not make it or be imprisoned is what keeps this inhumane process never
