Persuasive Essay Against Nuclear

1131 Words5 Pages

Anything nuclear is relating to or constituting the nucleus of an atom of mainly uranium in nuclear power plants, using the process of fission. Fission is the splitting of multiple atoms such as an isotope of uranium, which causes a chain of nuclear reactions. The world has been in the Atomic Age, ever since the detonation of the first nuclear bomb on July 16, 1945 during World War II. It bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, which ended World War II, despite killing millions of lives. Ever since the bombing, the use of nuclear power has expanded worldwide and keeps. Today in The United States there are over 100 nuclear powered units. To this day there are still debates whether the use of Nuclear Power should continue. I am against the continuation …show more content…

Unlike other types of power plants, nuclear power plants do not emit toxic gases such as nitrogen oxide in its process. Yet the emissions of fossil fuels use a lot of uranium process, which can be deadly, such as mining and enrichment, with using uranium fuel. If nuclear power never gets replaced and continues to be used sooner or later there won’t be any fossil fuels available. Also after a long period of time when the used uranium fuel has used most of its energy it gets released into the environment and turns into radioactive waste. Also a large amount of water is needed in order for the process because it uses it for steam production and cooling. But does affect marine life in a variety of negative ways if the nuclear plant is on a water source such as a river or lake. In addition, nuclear power plants make heavy metals and toxic salts to form in the water source. Which affects marine life negatively because of the water pollutants, and the higher temperature of the water causing a discharge. The discharge also occasionally releases tritium and certain elements that are radioactive and dangerous. Overall nuclear power has very negative impact to the environment and to marine
