Eating fast food can be a regular everyday habit for some people. Sometimes even three times a day for every meal. Unfortunately, this is extremely harmful to the human body. Fast food in America is the cause to many health issues. There is a problem in this country and people need to realize what is happening to their bodies and where all their money ends up. The solution to this is finding out what ingredients are in the fast foods, so they can realize that it is bad for them. According to the article by Harvard School of Public Health, “Eating Healthy vs. Unhealthy costs about $1.50 more per day.” This article talks about how much it seems like someone is spending but in the long run it is better to buy food in bulk compared to fast food for every meal. If someone wanted fast food at McDonald’s in Quincy, Illinois and they ordered three separate combo meals, they would be paying an average of 24 dollars a day. For a full year, that would be an astounding 8,760 dollars spent by only one hungry human. Just imagine what someone could buy with that much money. Hopefully, better and healthier food. It might be a better idea in the long run. In Quincy, on a weekly basis someone could spend about 30 to 50 dollars a week at the grocery store. If they spent the maximum amount of 50 dollars a week, in one-year shoppers would spend about 2,600 dollars total. The difference of buying healthier food from the store rather than the fast food is about 6,160 dollars. Being a college student makes it harder to work all the time, so students would like to save as much money as possible if, and when they could. As you can see it is a lot wiser in the long haul. How much of the fast food is causing the weight gain? These fast foods are high in grams of fat as well as calories. “Out of home meals and fast foods are rich in highly processed meat and refined carbohydrate, sodium, total fat, saturated and trans fatty acids, cholesterol, and poor in essential nutrients and dietary fibers (Bahadoran et al).” In this article it explains what type of things are in fast food, so people can understand what they are eating and the products that cause all the harmful long-term effects of the food. According to Yale University, only some fast food restaurants gave more nutritious options, but most of them had high calories, saturated fat, and more sodium that is normally recommended (v). Sometimes these restaurants want to give healthier options but the people buying the food must watch what is being put on or in the food. Even though it comes off as healthy it is still possible that it isn’t. The solution to spending too much money is to buy groceries in bulk. Buying groceries for a whole week or two will save time by only going two to four times a month. There should always be time for a trip to the store. Buying in bulk provides peace of mind knowing that someone’s hard earned money isn’t being spent on fast food that will only last for one meal.
