Many have never wondered what path a cosmetic or a drug must follow before finding its final place on a store shelf and do not realize that a great suffering may stand behind it. What is more, they unconsciously contribute to this phenomenon by buying products of a brand which makes laboratory tests on animals. If by any chance some happen to be familiar with the situation, they believe in theories that animals are treated extremely kindly, kept in clean cages and that nothing serious happens to them. Unfortunately, the real-life situation is different. Many cosmetic and drug concerns use animals to test the effectiveness of new products and to find and eliminate possible harmful effects, which may appear to a human. The way in which animals are treated during those researches is far below …show more content…
Currently, there are two opposite sides of the problem. On the one hand, there are scientists, who think that there is no better way than to do such experiments and on the other, there are people, who care about animals, treat them almost equally to themselves and want to fight for their rights. While scientists may be equipped with some good points concerning the issues, there are a few fundamental reasons why animal testing should be stopped. The first issue involves technological matters. Technology has moved forward so far that there are many new ways to do research without the use of animals. What is more, these researches are less expensive and more environmentally friendly. Among the alternatives, there are: in vitro testing, computer modeling, and human-patient simulators. In vitro testing involves “organs-on-chips that contain human cells grown in a state-of-the-art system to mimic the structure and function of human organs and organ systems” (PETA). It means that they can be used in various types of testing and will give results superior to
