There’s an element of second-hand embarrassment felt while walking to a job provided by the cosmetics empire when it is easy to notice the streets filled with people herding together like the atrocities they are protesting for: animals. Protesters are even going to extreme lengths by wearing makeup in order to not be mistaken for the animals being tested. This has allowed for the cosmetic empire to grow into the untouchable powerhouse it is today. The protests that are arguing for animals to have basic human rights do not attack the issue face to face, instead advocating for a basic human right, being able to get from point A to B peacefully. Have you ever been in a situation where you are stuck behind a mob of slow pedestrians, making it impossible to get around them? During the entire time getting to point B, you can feel the freedom nearby, only to be blockaded every which way you turn. To create a clear path where one can pass, one may think about committing murder or a violent act to the first person in front or beside them, because hey, it seems like the most successful thing to do. The Animal Welfare Act is an act that protects warm-blooded animals from being tested on and excludes rats, mice, and birds. Rats, mice, and birds make up 90% of the animals that are tested on, meaning the Animal Welfare Act only protects animals that provide 10% of the animals tested on (About the Issue). This is an ingenious solution: not only does the Animal Welfare Act not interfere with any testing being done, animal sympathizers, after they see that there are animals that are protected will back off of the controversy. It is a win-win situation since the protesters feel as if they have succeeded and the cosmetics empire is able to keep their hands
