Imagine a baby being in the womb, minding their own business, and out of nowhere a doctor comes and starts jabbing it with a needle. Abortion is the process of eliminating an unborn child. A baby, even if they are unborn, should not have his or hers life taken away, especially when putting a child up for adoption is an option. An abortion is a very complicated procedure. A mother has to think hard about if the procedure is something she really wants. She also has to think about the consequences she could face during and after the abortion, like if the procedure goes wrong and how it affects her future health and children. An infection in the pelvic region can be caused. Germs, bacteria, from the vagina or cervix may enter the uterus during the abortion. Antibiotics can treat the infection. In rare cases though, a repeat suction abortion, hospitalization and or surgery may be required. Not all abortions are complete, part of the fetus may not be drained out fully. This could require further medical procedures, cause bleeding, and cause infection. Blood clots could form in the uterus and cause severe cramping. The clots are removed by repeat surgical abortion procedure. Bleeding is typical after an abortion, but heavy bleeding, hemorrhaging, is not common. Heavy bleeding is stopped by medication, repeat suction, and in rare cases, surgery. The instruments used to do the procedure could cut or tear a woman’s cervix. The abortionist must stretch the uterus during the procedure and could accidentally cut through the wall of the uterus. Surgery may be required to fix the uterine tissue or a hysterectomy, removal of uterus. When a woman gets an abortion she does not get to use anesthesia since anesthesia increases the risk of complications during the procedure. The abortion can then be very painful to her. A woman could get an abortion once and that one time abortion could impact on her future pregnancies. A woman could experience vaginal bleeding and her baby could have a preterm birth or a low birth weight. A woman who has gotten an abortion could have an incompetent cervix and that could also lead to a preterm birth. Preterm birth affects are very serious. The baby could experience dental problems, hearing loss, infections, and intestinal issues. Long term intellectual and developmental disabilities are also expected with a preterm baby, like physical development, learning, communicating, getting along with others, and taking care of themselves.
