Abortion has been a topic of debate all around the world for decades. Whether it be about the legality or morality of the topic, it’s controversial. It really shouldn’t be. A woman should be able to make the choice to get an abortion if she wants to. To begin with, if it’s the woman’s body, it’s her choice what she does with it. Lots of people argue that the fetus in her belly is a whole separate being, and it shouldn’t be the woman’s choice on whether to abort it or not. Though these people have good intentions, their opinions do more harm than good. The fetus isn’t technically a human until birth. All of this is because abortion is illegal, and this could be America someday if the government criminalizes safe abortions. Lots of people think that criminalizing safe abortions will lower abortion rates, but that’s not true. Because abortion is illegal in many countries, especially developing ones, over 21 million women worldwide experience unsafe abortion every year. Of these women, over 47,000 die due to complications of unsafe abortions, which is close to 13% of all maternal deaths. Even those who do survive face problems like infections, hemorrhoids, and disease in the aftermath of an unsafe abortion.
