Concurring with that, 52% believe abortion should be legal and made accessible everywhere. Not every child is born into a safe and loving environment, as one should be. Banning abortion can lead to higher maternal deaths, decreasing the female population. It is also wildly offensive to women’s rights and will open more opportunities for the government to abuse its power. What other rights will be taken away from women? Logos I As mentioned, it has been proven that making abortion legal and accessible can and will lower maternal mortality rates. According to research from The Commonwealth Fund,“maternal death rates were 62% higher in abortion-restricted states than in abortion access states.” This is a significant factor to consider due to some women having medical conditions that put them at risk if pregnant. Others, like children, are simply too young for their underdeveloped bodies to handle 3 pregnancy, which also puts their life and the baby at risk. There is no sensible reason to risk a healthy life for a fetus that is not even considered a baby or a citizen yet. Logos II Moreover, all laws are bound to be broken, it happens everyday and everywhere. Criminalizing abortion will only encourage people to have more illegal and unsafe abortions, causing more harm.
