For many years, the regulation of alcohol advertising has caused countless upheavals throughout history all over the world; however, both opposing sides have their own opinions on what they believe is right. One opposing side feels as if alcoholic beverage companies are promoting alcohol abuse by creating myths that alcohol can enhance a person’s life, when in reality, alcohol addiction can destroy the lives of many. A group of promotional marketing industries in Great Britain argue that any regulations made for alcohol advertising will not reduce the abuse of alcohol. Alcoholic beverage ads have long caught the attention of teenagers for decades, which has ultimately led to the selling of alcoholic beverages to underage adolescents.
Alcohol is one of the most widely used drug throughout the United States. In addition, it is also on the most publicly advertised products in the United States. The alcohol industry averages about “$65 billion a year in revenue and spends more than $3 billion on advertising.” (Kilborune 1). However, there is no proof that advertising increases alcohol consumption.
