Having a bill of rights for animals could be the cause of death for millions of people. Animals, However should not be abused or mistreated because as Braithwaite suggest in her article Hooked on a Myth “[fish] have the necessary sensory wiring to detect pain” along with the many other animals (62). So we shouldn’t completely dismiss the idea of animals having some sort of humane conditions. But we should really consider what the consequences could be with such a huge implementation of rights for animals. Because it is not as simple as giving animals rights and now the whole world is happy. There are side effects that you might not have thought of.
The United States is a first world country with a thriving economy, so life wouldn’t be so bad without meat, especially for those who have already chosen to be vegan. According to livestock's report there are“1.3 billion people” working in the livestock careers and “987 million of those people are poor.” Banning meat will take the jobs of these people away from them and put their families in poverty. The liveStock Industry is huge and with “[China being] the highest producer of consumer food production with millions of pounds of meat being imported yearly.” The livestock industry holds a staggering “1.4 percent of the world's total GDP.” Unemployment will skyrocket and the hope of many will be lost. Political views will begin to change and along will come the people who will use this loss of hope to gain leadership and power. A promise of a job would do a lot for people in these tough times and tough times will of course result into people thinking in ignorant
