Every pet loves their owner, but sadly not everyone loves their pet. Some people just are cruel and get joy out of hurting or neglecting their pets. Your pet may only be a part of your life, but for them, you are their everything, the only person in their whole life. Now imagine if the only person in your life hit, kicked, and hurt you so much that you couldn’t stand everyday for your whole life. We can speak up for ourselves, but who is going to be the voice for the voiceless whose owners just don’t care. Although some laws about animal abuse exist I believe there should be stricter laws, because our laws on animal abuse is only one year in jail, so nothing is stopping them from hurting more animals again.
There are those really sad commercials about animals who were abused, well have you ever thought about what happened to the people who hurt them. Well they hurt those poor animals and then only get a year in jail. I believe they should be in there longer than just a year. It is one of our misdemeanor laws. They understand that you are telling them to sit and they understand if you are kicking them. So since it isn’t a felony to abuse an animal those same people can do the same thing to a different animal. I believe that it should be a felony to abuse an animal. It is just a misdemeanor because no one thinks about the poor animals who are getting hurt right now. There are an average of 6.5 million animals who get abused each year. Even though that is just in North America we can start by just making animal abuse a felony in North Carolina. And by doing so we could save so many animal’s lives. They may not can do anything for themselves, but I know that at least I can do
