The ignorance and greed of those individuals with great power in our world is quickly bringing on the end of the world. Without serious change, the current generation will be the first that will have to deal with the carelessness of our ways. Even without fossil fuels, we will exceed our 565 gigatonnes CO2e limit by 2030(____). The first steps we need to be taking to insure that the world has a bright future is something that many in our society do not value as much as they should; Education. Because of the amount of land that raising livestock uses, we are not producing nearly as much food as we could be. If the world population was to lessen or stop its consumption of animal products significantly, it could quickly end world hunger. 1.5 acres of land can produce 37,000 pounds of plant-based food, while 1.5 acres of land can only produce 375 pounds of meat (____). We are living in a world of seven billion people where 45% of the earth's total land is devoted to livestock (___). In a world where 795 million people or one ninth of the world’s population do not have enough food to live a healthy life, it should be an obligation to aid our fellow human. The animal agriculture industry has been able to use its virtually limitless resources to keep much of the truth about the effects of livestock on the environment from the public. It has also alienated plant-based lifestyles through campaigns such as: “Got milk?” and “Nourishing meat, a complete protein food”(___). These campaigns make the public think that veganism is unhealthy, when in reality the amount of protein and calcium in animal products is so high that it is to a point that it is fairly unhealthy to consume. Natural, healthy amounts of calcium and protein can be found in things such as: nuts, greens, seaweed, and even potatoes(___), and many studies have been done that show that veganism is the most balanced diet for humans, if done correctly. Debunking the myths and educating people on the truth of veganism and the animal agriculture industry are the first key steps that need to be carried out quickly.
