You ever want a something to munch on at work or something cold to drink? An on campus convenient store would benefit the University as a whole in many different ways. Campus students that live in the dorms, instructors, and professors that are here long days, would all benefit and save valuable time.
Why a Convenient Store?
When I transferred from Manhattan, I was surprised that we didn’t have an on campus store where we would get a bite to eat, rent a movie, or run and get a gallon of milk. Manhattan has a total of five stores, one in every dining hall on campus. Why shouldn’t we have one?
Student Jobs
Creating an on campus convenient store would create other avenues for student employment on campus. Most student employment we currently have are facilities, office assistances, and lab techs. The convenient store employees would be able to socialize more, gain business skills, customer service, and retail experience which couldn’t be achieved by current on campus jobs.

An added convenient store would add on to those sales. Vending machines are only so limited to what they have in them and some only take small currency. The school’s cafeteria isn’t open all day and sometimes students don’t like what they’re serving on certain days. The store would then pick up the potential loss in sales.
Location
The College Center isn’t currently large enough to hold a store. In the proposed plan however, there is two additions which could easily accommodate. This would provide a central location on campus beside the Technical Center and a close distance to the residence halls as well.
Improve Campus Life
A store also provides the students and facility a reason to stay on campus. Most students that attend usually go out to eat at many of Salina’s fast food restaurants. This will provide another place to socialize on campus instead of going directly home like most of the students do
