Should gays and lesbians be allowed to adopt? In today’s society it is being said that every human being is equal, but is everyone really equal? Adoption has been around for many years, but recently some have been questionally gay adoption. Why is that? Homosexuality is becoming more and more accepted in today’s society, but however, when it comes to homosexuals adopting children, a problem is presented. Many disagree and say having a homosexual adopt a child is very much unhealthy for the child because they then get confused when they see their friend parents have both a father and mother and leaves them concerned and questionable. It also prevents the child from having an opposite-sex figure in one’s lives. For instance, it is said that this legislation is ensuring the foster placement agencies that do not want to place children with same-sex couples are allowed to do that (Kumar). Not having a mother and father figure can lead to low self esteem. It makes the child feel that when the time comes to be loved by another, the child will think when growing up, that the person will also leave them. Another example is, Homeosexual couples can not adopt even if they are acting as the child's parent when one becomes disabled or dies, the other child's parents can not authorize medical care or provide health insurance (Cameron). This quote shows that because both parents die the other can not provide health insurance or medical care. This is a problem for same-sex couples because they will not be able to provide a good and healthy life for the child without health insurance. People have opinions on the effect of the child with same-sex couples, but their opinions are affecting the child with not providing health
