Getting People's Attention: According to The National Library of Medicine, At least 90 percent of the soy, cotton, canola, corn and sugar beets sold in the United States have been genetically engineered. Why is this fact so important? It’s because millions of people aren’t aware of what types of chemicals they are putting into their bodies. These are chemicals that some scientist believe are damaging to the human body and race. There needs to be a change in the foods that U.S. citizens are eating. The citizens of the United States are allowing companies to put GMO’s on the market. What is so significant about genetically modified foods you ask? I am one of millions of people in the United States that struggle with their weight and choosing healthier options. It’s so much harder to find fresh organic produce that is affordable for everyone. I don’t understand how it’s even okay for organic foods to be so expensive and foods such as GMO’s to be so dirt cheap. Other countries have laws to make sure that their countries are healthy and regulate the types of food allowed in their country. The United States; However, has laws on how many bugs are allowed to be in a certain type of food.
