Have you ever eaten GMO produce? The term GMO stands for genetically modified organisms. This means that the DNA of the crops have been modified in a genetic way. Therefore the crops are no longer one hundred percent natural. This has caused a worldwide debate as people battle using words. Most claim that GM foods are toxic and can cause health issues while scientists verbally fight back using evidence based facts that proves otherwise. Only ten commercial crops in the world are grown using genetically modified seeds. Seventy percent of foods in North America contain genetically modified organisms’. You will find use of GMO’s in sugar beets, soy, canola, cotton, corn, zucchini, yellow summer squash, alfalfa, papaya and artic branded apples. …show more content…

We have been eating GM food for many years as they were released in 1994. The U.S National Academy of Science looked at thousands of scientific studies and concluded the GM food crops do not pose more risks toward humans, animals, or the environment than any other foods. GMO crops are modified to survive herbicide treatment, produce their own pesticides, and resist certain diseases and slow oxidation of product. Modifying food genetically is considered to be unnatural. Biotechnologists are accused by numerous people of playing god. Many people around the world believe that GMO’s are bad and harmful to their health although, scientific evidence proves otherwise. The results show that GMO’s are safe. People look at GMOs as a contamination which caused many countries to band GM foods. GM foods are foods that has genes that have been adjusted. Organism genes are taken and are placed in other organisms. Some people think that GM foods are toxic and can cause diseases therefore, they won’t consume any GM products. Many foods in North America are modified to enhance the production of the crops. Great conflict has erupted between GMO’s being healthy and not healthy.
