The controversy over whether GMOs are safe and healthy for human consumption is one that is being debated all throughout the world. There are people who believe that GMOs are an innovation that has helped the world to improve the quality and life span of food (Kurzgesagt.). There are others who believe that GMOs are one of the causes of poor quality food and sickness. The problem that people have with GMOs is not necessarily the fact that food is being genetically modified and changed, but that people don’t know what is truly going on behind the doors of the factories and farms(Kenner). In a relative sense people are being kept in the dark about what really goes on in the food system that America is in today. People are being tricked and deceived into thinking that their food is safe and healthy to eat, when in reality it may not be as safe as people think(Cummins.) The genetic mutations that scientists want to achieve occur but also other mutations can occur within the plant that was not necessarily needed and may even have some kind of repercussion later down in the future of the person who consumed the food that potentially had a mutation that may cause harm.
