Today, genetically modified organisms also known as, GMOs, have taken over the crops and animals we eat. “A GMO is an organism whose genome has been altered by the techniques of genetic engineering so that it’s DNA has traits that weren’t there before” (“GMO”). The way we breed our dogs is the same way we breed our plants. We breed these plants to get the best features to help them to be more resistant to pesticides or other chemicals. The two biggest types of GM foods are corn and soybeans.With now growing GMOs all over the United States there could be at least a hundred different reasons why they are more efficient. “With the GM foods here are a few positives: bigger yields with using more land and less use of chemicals, foods with better texture or flavor, foods with longer shelf life, and of course GMO’s are a more substantial way to feed the world” (Benefits of GM Food). GM foods is the only way we have to feed our large and growing population. American today doesn’t have many famers who just grow for themselves, almost everyone today are commercial farmers. With our chemicals we are feeding our plants and animals does cause many environmental and some health issues. Companies didn’t want it, but the people did. Zen Honeycutt a writer for EcoWatch makes a point saying that this is OUR food and that our health is the number one priority which also makes this a violation of consumer rights and religious rights. With GMOs being in our food we do deserve the right to know and we should get a say in whether we have labeling or not. No labeling is a violation for us and if there is no labeling then people are going to believe that the company is lying about their products. This will cause people to stop buying their products. Some religions cannot eat certain foods, so without labeling they wouldn’t know what food was safe or not to
