Persuasive Essay On Gmo Foods

I love to eat. I imagine, so does every living thing on earth. To survive we must give our bodies energy. With around seven billion humans on earth, we need to produce a lot of food. Not only for the human population, but for livestock as well. What is on the menu? How about genetically modified foods? Some scientists say they are "generally safe" and others say there are risks, and further testing is needed. Right now, we are eating them every day not even knowing it. Some of the concerns that these foods could cause are allergies, developing a resistance to antibiotics and the effects on the environment. When dealing with health and safety, anything modified has the potential for something to go wrong.
GMOs are genetically modified organisms. Dr. A. S. Bawa explains what GMOs are in his journal. He states that "Genetic modification is a special set of gene technology that alters the genetic machinery of such living organisms as animals, plants, or …show more content…

The CDC does not say if it is GM foods causing the resistance; instead, they make it seem like it is caused from the animals we eat, that ingest antibiotics to keep them healthy. The CDC claims that "All animals carry bacteria in their intestines. Giving antibiotics to animals will kill many bacteria, but resistant bacteria can survive and multiply." If this is true, and this can affect humans then in my opinion, using antibiotic resistant markers to genetically modify genes in plants should by all rights affect humans negatively when we ingest them. It also leads me to believe that possibly the combination of the two, the genetically modified food and the food the animals are eating, could be the cause of this
