Marijuana has been used by humanity for centuries. Ancient tombs, temples and graves have been discovered with the substance as a gift for the afterlife. Marijuana comes from a hemp plant Cannabis Sativa. Today, it is more popular now than ever before and the fight for legalization is still a talk amongst politicians. It has countless names, such as dope, ganja, weed, and pout, but marijuana is a widely used term in articles as well as between people. Marijuana is usually used by adolescents and young adults as a recreational drug but in recent years, studies are making connection to improvements in health and alleviated symptoms of diseases and disorders. Due to regulations establish in the 70’s, marijuana is illegal in many different state. But, in the past decade, several states have legalized it because of the positive affects it has on it users. Other states have considered to legalize it for those that need it for medical purposes. The majority of the states in the US still have strict laws against marijuana. Due to the fact that there are over 400 compound that goes into experiencing a marijuana high, inhaling the smoke can cause problem overtime, “Long-term use of smoked cannabis is associated with symptoms suggestive of obstructive lung disease, and although short-term use is not”(Ellis et al). The multiple different types of chemicals that are becoming fumes to inhale, and being exposed for a long period of time can cause problems and show signs of lung diseases. This is problematic because those that are using it to cope with their chemotherapy, might end up doing more harm than good.
