The legalisation of marijuana is a very highly discussed controversial topic in the United States, and many other progressive Western countries. One stereotype is that older folks from other generations are extremely against this passage of law, but it seems that more and more of the present day and younger generations agree with the idea. While in most cases, this is true, there are several insightful thinkers from past generations that agree with the youth of today. Are these children and the adults that agree with them potheads, simply because they believe in the legalisation of this drug? Not necessarily. The simple reason behind the protest is fear. Those against the legalisation of the drug are fearful as to what it would bring, or rather, what it could change about their way of life. But, if we look at the issues caused by marijuana, most of the problems caused by it are similar to that of alcohol and quite a substantial bit less problematic than cigarettes and other tobacco products. Cigarettes, for example, are known to cause over six million deaths a year, in the form of lung cancer or other respiratory issues, whereas pot has not been seen to cause any. An estimated fifty thousand people die from an overdose on alcohol, or alcohol poisoning each year. Again, we see that it is impossible to “overdose” on marijuana, and therefor it has caused no deaths from this, either. Perhaps the most common way that marijuana has been known to cause death is when used during driving, the same way that alcohol already quite often is. Another source of the disapproval is judgement. Those who are against the drug,
