Although the war on drugs has ended, marijuana’s character has still been attacked by the government repeatedly. As a result of those egregious slanders from the government, marijuana was pretty much forced upon society to be an illegal substance.The government put it in a state of prohibition.Marijuana’s banning has helped few, but traumatized countless through many aspects of their lives. That is why we as a group are for the legalization of marijuana and wishes for it to be legalized promptly amongst the country.
One reason marijuana should be legal is that the marijuana prohibition has been ineffective. One of the supposedly main goals of marijuana has been to end the use of the substance altogether amongst the citizens in the country. Despite those goals, the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the Federal Bureau of Investigations has reported that over an astounding 27 Million people has used marijuana at least one time in their lives in 2011. As the use of the drug is pretty persistent these recent years, the number of people getting arrested for possessing the drug continuously fluctuates amongst country.
Proving that even with the harsh penalties and a bigger crackdown on marijuana, people are still avid users and the high usage rates still persist.

Arrests and convictions of possession charges amongst the otherwise law-abiding citizens has cost them the chance at living affluent lifestyles and progress in society. Especially in the black community, where blacks use the substance just as much if not less than whites , but are three times more likely to be arrested than whites.
