Growing up in the United States you have heard smoking is bad for you and can cause many health problems, but now the tables are starting to change. Today almost 53% of americans say the marijuana plant should be legalized. With today's technology and science marijuana can be used from medical purposes to salad dressings. Most of my friends in high school smoke marijuana because to they find it to help them relax and take their mind off of school and their everyday lives. Most high school students and young adults all across the United States smoke marijuana more than any other generation because they are the individuals with the busiest lives and seemingly most difficult times than our grandparents. 84% of americans would like to see marijuana being legalized only for only medical purposes. 19% of the american population believe that people can abuse the drug because it is an addictive substance. The National Institute on Drug Abuse says that regular heavy marijuana use for teens can lead to an 8 point drop in IQ. Other negatives of marijuana include lung problems, mental hallucinations, and seeing brighter colors. Marijuana can affect how the brain processes information which causes slower or confused responses. Marijuana is a substance that can be addicting after it has been smoked for a period of time. It is proven that marijuana can help slow down cancer cells but it can also cause new cancer cells to form. When you smoke you heart rate goes up 20-100 times faster than the average beat. When it stays high for about 3 hours you are more likely to have a heart attack in the first hour. If you were to try out marijuana you have to very cautious of the effects of it because it can ruin or hurt you
