There has been a big controversy over legalizing and the regulation of marijuana in the Unite States. On June 23, 2011 DC lawmakers passed a bill to Congress to officially legalize the use of marijuana across the US. Nearly eight hundred thousand arrests are made on a yearly basis due to marijuana charges. Marijuana is the most abused drug in the United States. There are many claims that marijuana can be used medically and help patients with certain disorders and symptoms. There is much debate on medical marijuana and the effects it can have on patients. Marijuana claims to treat symptoms of many illnesses and cancers. According to "History and Debate of Medical Marijuana" (n.d.), “There are several positive effects claimed for medical marijuana, among them stimulating hunger, easing gastrointestinal distress, relaxing muscles, reducing nausea, mitigating pain and lowering eye pressure. While studies have proven several of these benefits scientifically, some observers feel that the potential dangers of marijuana outweigh its benefits as a treatment plan”, (para. 2). The legalization of marijuana can create more jobs in the United State. According to Rucke, business licenses have created jobs for 10,000 people (Rucke, 2014). The extra jobs decrease the unemployed rates and create extra money for the states. The job openings are putting America back to work. Colorado in six months generates 20 million dollars (Rucke, 2014). Just as alcohol and tobacco are highly taxed so is marijuana. The tax money offers extra money for the state and federal budgets. Increase tax money can dramatically help states with their budgets. The extra money can go to schools and other public programs to increase more educations and activities within the
